Life in the day of a controller

— Hi! I’m Jenn. I’m a Corporate Controller with 15+ years of accounting experience across fast-growing tech companies, from e-commerce and SaaS to fintech and integrated hardware. I currently lead a finance team at a 500+ person startup, where I spend my days navigating everything from global payroll to system integrations to explaining (for the 100th time) why someone’s paycheck changed in January. 😉

I started this blog because I realized so much of what makes a great accountant isn’t taught in school — and a lot of what is taught is 10 years behind where the real world is. My goal is to share practical insights, hard-won lessons, and real stories from the trenches that might help you grow in your accounting career, whether you’re just starting out or leading your own team.

I believe the future of accounting is about more than debits and credits. It’s about adaptability, communication, curiosity, critical thinking, and staying organized in a world that moves fast. This blog is part mentorship, part career diary, part “things I wish someone told me 10 years ago.
